How do I know if my car’s battery is faulty?
If you see a fault code on your Tesla, this indicates that something is wrong. Below are some codes that may indicate a battery defect:
What does each BMS fault code mean?
What happens when the HV battery is defective?
When a problem occurs in the HV section of your car, the system will shut down for safety reasons. As a result, your 12-volt battery will no longer be charged and your car will quickly go “dead”.
We can help in these situations. In most cases your Tesla will need to be transported to us. Our specialist will then perform an initial diagnosis using Tesla software. If a battery repair is necessary, the battery must be removed from underneath the car, carefully opened and the problem located. This process requires great care. A common cause of battery failure is moisture build-up. Moisture enters via condensation or through valves in the battery edges. Valves become dirty in dusty conditions, allowing moisture in — temperature fluctuations contribute to this. Moisture can also enter through corroded holes in the fuse cover or through bolt holes in the battery lid.
Moisture trapped inside the battery causes oxidation — circuit boards in the battery can fail. We can repair or replace these boards with replacement parts. In rarer cases, the battery cells themselves become damaged, requiring the entire battery module to be replaced. (These costs are not included in the repair prices listed above; we will communicate this with you.)
Once everything is repaired and tested, the battery is carefully closed, sealed and reinstalled under your car. A test drive is performed and the battery is charged.
